Where it stands out
The autocomplete as you type is what separates it from everything else: it does not just suggest the next line, it proposes edits several lines further down, where you were heading next. And because it is the whole editor, it indexes the project and knows which other parts of the code use the function you are changing.
Where it falls short
It is an editor, not an extension: if you work in a JetBrains IDE and have no intention of moving, it is not an option without relocating. And for large tasks spanning half a project it trails terminal agents, which are designed for that. Cursor accompanies you while you code, it does not work alone.
How its pricing works
A monthly subscription with models included, around $20/month, which makes spend predictable against tools charging per token. There is a limited free plan for testing. If you code daily, the flat rate usually comes out cheaper than paying for API; if you code occasionally, the opposite.
