How these differ from the categories
A category is the full catalogue: every tool of that type we have reviewed, in no particular order. A ranking is a selection: we pick the best and put them in order, which means committing to a view and leaving out tools somebody likes. How we decide the order
We weigh four things: how well the tool does its job, whether the price is reasonable for what you get, how easy it is to get started and how well it works in Spanish. There is no user score and nothing that can be bought: an expensive tool can come first if it is worth it, and a free one can be left out. We revisit each list when one of its tools changes pricing or features.
