Ahrefs or SE Ranking?
Ahrefs has the best backlink index on the market and that is not something discounts can replace: if your work depends on link analysis, there is no argument. The price gap is the starting point
SE Ranking costs considerably less and covers the essentials: rank tracking, technical audits, keyword research and competitor analysis. Ahrefs is a premium tool with a link index nothing matches. The question is whether your project needs that depth.
The link index
This is where Ahrefs remains irreplaceable: it crawls more and updates sooner, so it sees links other tools take weeks to register. If your strategy depends on watching links — yours or competitors' — that advantage justifies the price; if not, you are paying for something you do not use.
How it scales by number of projects
SE Ranking is built for agencies and freelancers with several clients: plans include more sites for less money and white-label reports. Ahrefs penalises that scenario more. If you manage five sites, the monthly difference is very noticeable.
