What is ElevenLabs?

ElevenLabs is an AI audio platform specialising in ultra-realistic text to speech, voice cloning, dubbing, sound effects, music and conversational agents. It is aimed at content creators, podcasters, developers and companies that need natural, expressive voices. It stands out for the quality and expressiveness of its voices, its library of more than 10,000 voices and its multilingual support covering over 70 languages in the v3 model.

Pros

  • Exceptionally natural and expressive voices, widely considered the market leader
  • Broad multilingual support: more than 70 languages in the v3 model, Spanish included
  • Full API with SDKs for Python and JavaScript/TypeScript, plus iOS and Android apps
  • Very complete ecosystem: TTS, voice cloning, dubbing, music, sound effects and voice agents

Cons

  • The credit-based pricing can be confusing and overage costs at high usage are hard to predict
  • The free plan is very limited (about 10 minutes of audio) and carries no commercial licence
  • Advanced features such as professional cloning or low-latency TTS are reserved for higher plans

What ElevenLabs is like in practice

Where it stands out

It sets the benchmark in synthetic voice and in Spanish it shows especially across long texts: it intones, pauses where it should and avoids the flat rhythm that gives away a machine reader within thirty seconds. It also clones a voice from a short sample with a fidelity that still surprises.

Where it falls short

It is optimised for spoken voice, not singing: there are dedicated tools for that. And its greatest virtue is its greatest risk: cloning someone else's voice without express permission infringes their rights, and how easy it is to do changes none of that. With your own, no issue.

How its pricing works

Plans are measured in characters converted per month and that is the number to work out against your real volume, not the price. There is a free plan with limited characters, enough to judge Spanish quality with your own text, which is the only test that counts.

Is ElevenLabs right for you?

Yes, if…

You need synthetic voice that does not sound robotic: video voice-overs, dubbing into other languages, audiobooks or voice agents. It is the market benchmark for naturalness, in Spanish too.

No, if…

Your use will be occasional or your budget is fixed: the free plan gives about 10 minutes with no commercial licence, and the credit system makes spending hard to predict at scale.
