What the free plan actually limits
Almost all of them have a free plan, but they cap different things: some limit messages per day, others let you use the good model a handful of times and then quietly drop you to a weaker one. Before paying, use it free for a week on your real work. If you never hit the limit, do not pay.
How much text it handles at once
This is the difference you notice most day to day and the one that is advertised least. If you are going to paste in contracts, reports or long transcripts, check that it does not lose the thread halfway. An assistant that forgets what you said twenty messages ago forces you to repeat yourself constantly.
Whether it writes in Spanish or translates into it
They all reply in Spanish, but not all of them write in Spanish. Some think in English and translate, and it shows in odd turns of phrase and expressions nobody would actually use. If you are going to publish what it writes, ask for a long paragraph on your topic and read it out loud: if it sounds like a translated manual, rule it out.
Whether you need it to search the web
An assistant without web access answers from what it learned during training, which has a cut-off date. For writing or coding that is fine; for anything that depends on current data — prices, regulation, news — it is the difference between a useful answer and an outdated one delivered with complete confidence.
Before you pay, keep this in mind
Assistants make things up with the same confidence they use to tell the truth: names, figures, quotes and links that do not exist. This is not a bug you fix by switching tools, it is how they work. Verify any specific fact you plan to use — a date, a law, a price, a reference — yourself. And bear in mind that what you paste may end up training the model: check the privacy settings before uploading client or company documents.

It depends what for. The free plans of the big assistants are enough for occasional use: one-off questions, summaries, emails. As soon as you use one daily for work, they all hit their limit. At that point the question is no longer which is best for free, but which is worth the roughly €20 a month they nearly all cost.
Is it worth paying for an AI chatbot?
If you use it for work and it saves you half an hour a day, it pays for itself on the first day of the month. If you open it twice a week for odd questions, the free plan is plenty. What almost never pays off is subscribing to two assistants at once: the differences between them are smaller than the learning curve of using one well.
