What is Microsoft 365 Copilot?

Microsoft 365 Copilot is the business version of Microsoft's assistant: not a separate chat, but AI built into the applications your staff already work in. It drafts in Word, analyses data in Excel, summarises meetings in Teams and prioritises email in Outlook, with access to the organisation's documents and mail while respecting existing permissions.

Pros

  • Built into where the team already works: Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook
  • Accesses company documents and email while respecting permissions
  • Automatic summaries of Teams meetings
  • Interface and output available in Spanish

Cons

  • It is an add-on: a separate Microsoft 365 licence is required
  • Real cost of $30 to $90/user/month once you add the base plan
  • Microsoft raised prices on the Copilot bundles in July 2026

Frequently asked questions

How much does Microsoft 365 Copilot cost?

Is it the same as the free Copilot?

No. The consumer Copilot is free and works as a chat; this one is built into the Office applications and accesses your organisation's data.

Does it see my internal documents?

Yes, and that is the point: it works over the organisation's files and email, respecting the permissions each user already has.
